Privacy Policy

On this page
The short version. DreamPlayer has no servers, so it has nowhere to send your data to. There is no account, no analytics and no advertising SDK. Everything stays on your device unless you explicitly turn on an optional third-party service, in which case that service receives only what it needs to answer your request.
1. Introduction
DreamPlayer ("the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it is used, and the choices available to you.
2. Information we collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our own servers. The App has no backend. It runs entirely on your device.
The App accesses the following on your device:
- Video and audio files — only when you explicitly choose to play them. Files are read locally or streamed from a server you configured; they are never uploaded anywhere.
- Network server credentials (WebDAV, Jellyfin, SMB, FTP/SFTP, TheTVDB) — stored locally in encrypted form. Never transmitted to us.
- Playback history, bookmarks and settings — stored locally and used only to resume where you left off and to build your library.
- Purchase status — managed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment information or Apple ID credentials.
3. Third-party services
The App can optionally connect to the following services, and only when you choose to use them. Each is off until you configure it.
- TMDB (The Movie Database) — fetches film and series metadata (posters, ratings, cast, episode stills). Only your TMDB API key, which you enter yourself, and the search terms are sent. No personal data is shared.
- TheTVDB — an optional second metadata provider, used as a fallback or when you select it explicitly. Your TheTVDB API key and PIN are stored in the device keystore or keychain and are sent only to TheTVDB in order to authenticate your requests.
- OpenSubtitles — searches for and downloads subtitle files. Only the video filename or hash, and your OpenSubtitles credentials if you choose to sign in, are sent.
- Your own media servers (WebDAV, Jellyfin, SMB, FTP/SFTP, DLNA) — the App connects directly to the servers you configure. Your media never passes through any system of ours.
- Android TV / Google Cast-style discovery — local network probes are used to discover Jellyfin and DLNA servers on your own LAN. These stay on your network.
These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them. We do not control how they handle data once it reaches them.
4. Data storage
-
iOS / iPadOS: all app data is stored locally using standard
iOS mechanisms — the app sandbox for files,
UserDefaultsfor preferences, and the Keychain for credentials. Server credentials are written withkSecAttrAccessibleAfterFirstUnlockThisDeviceOnly, so they do not leave the device and are unavailable until the device has been unlocked once after boot. -
Android: preferences are stored in app-private storage.
Credentials are held in
EncryptedSharedPreferences, backed by an AES-256-GCM master key held in the Android Keystore, and the app's backup configuration excludes the credential store. - No data is uploaded to external servers by the App other than the explicit third-party requests described in section 3.
- Free trial record (iOS): if you start the free trial, the date you started it is stored in the keychain as a single timestamp. It contains no identifier and is not linked to your Apple ID by us. On iOS it is written as a synchronisable keychain item, so it is included in your iCloud Keychain or encrypted device backups, and it follows you to a new device. This is deliberate: it is what prevents a used trial from being reset by deleting and reinstalling the App. You can remove it at any time by deleting the App and its keychain entry through your device's standard settings.
5. In-app purchases
All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect, store, or have access to your credit card information, Apple ID credentials, or payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies to all transactions: apple.com/legal/privacy.
6. Children's privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
